Understanding Computers Group Assignment — January 26, 2019

Understanding Computers Group Assignment

For this assignment we had to work in groups and prepare a presentation and kahoot to share our knowledge of a topic related to computers. My group chose to cover PC hardware and components. Our presentation we talked about the different components and what they do. We also talked about the different priorities people should have when building a PC for certain tasks. For example we learned that a gamer should priorities a fast GPU, fast RAM, and a motherboard with multiple slots for GPUs and RAM. I also learned things from other groups presentations such as, their are different types of hackers. There are white hat hackers and black hat hackers. White hat hackers help companies secure their online assets by trying to hack into them and then telling the companies where their weaknesses are. Black hat hackers on the other hand try to exploit companies online assets for their own personal gain. One thing our group did well was dividing the workload among group members. One thing we did poorly was communicating with each other, for example we made grammar mistakes on our slides because no one said anything about them.

What We learned In Processing Days 9-16 — January 25, 2019

What We learned In Processing Days 9-16

Since I started learning how to code with processing I’ve learned a lot. In Days nine to sixteen we learned how to use math, ratios, and variables in processing to easily scale projects from different sized windows. we used this skill in assignment 2 of processing to make a bears facial features scale with the size of its head and follow it around the window. After that we learned how to do text output and Boolean expressions. Then we learned how to use if/else statement, random integers, and mouse events in our processing projects. we then used these skills in assignment three to make a dice roll application and a grade average calculator. Finally we learned how to use loops, functions, and how to output frames from our scratch projects. these are the GIFs I made using this skill.

processing

After we finished scratch we moved on to a programming language called processing. processing is a library of java, we have mostly learned visual coding, but now we are starting to explore interactivity. such as mouse movement, mouse presses, and key presses. here are some of my favorite programs we’ve made so far.

scratch and culminating plan — October 26, 2018

scratch and culminating plan

a few weeks ago the class started programming on scratch scratch is a web based block coding language. so far we have learnt:

  • inputs and outputs
  • calculations
  • selection
  • motion and animation
  • variables
  • if/else processes
  • loops
  • sensing
  • broadcast and receive

our next project in scratch is too make a fully functioning video game. We plan to make a puzzle platformer game. In the game, the player will have to figure out how to navigate the level to collect certain items (keys, orbs, etc.) that could help them progress through the level. It would have a cartoon theme to it since we will be drawing all of the backgrounds/levels. The game is inspired by different Scratch games that we played throughout the course. Our plan is to work collaboratively in order to figure out the codes, sprites, backgrounds, etc. Each member will do equal parts of the game. For example, ken will do part of a string of code and I will do the other part. We will figure out the rest while we work.

E-waste comic strip

In this assignment we had to write a six panel comic strip based off of the research we did in class about how e-waste is processed whether its burned or recycled we had to  write a comic strip educating people about one of the topics we researchede-waste

introduction to my blog

Hello, my name is James and welcome to my blog, this blog will be about my experiences in Mr. Indovina’s grade 10 computer studies course. This blog will catalog the assignments I do in this course and how I felt about them.
